MOPAR COLLECTORS GUIDE AND TOTALLY AUTO
CRASH THE HOT ROD MAGAZINE POWER TOUR. By Rob Wolf. Reprinted here with permission from Mopar Collectors Guide Magazine . |
| This years Hot Rod Power Tour is going to be a bit rowdier than normal. MCG is teaming up with Dave Ferro at Totally Auto and is hijacking his wife Diane's famed orange ‘70 Challenger R/T SE to crash the tour. Yes, we’re partners in crime in basically doing a heist to transform Diane's 25,000 original miles 383 SE Challenger into a high speed highway bruiser. Believe it or don't, Dave’s been crazy enough to begin work on Diane's car without telling her what we're planning. So, surprise Diane! Your car is going on the Power Tour and we're gonna’ be bustin’ up in it, slip sliding, and basically raising hell amongst all the pampered Street Rods, glamor boat cruisers, and those Pro Streeters which never turn a tire outside of being prepped for a car show or photo shoot. Anyone who knows Dave will be familiar with his driving style - it's something between a Kamikaze pilot and Jackie Stewart. The boy likes making smoke bombs, “drifting,” and seems to drive better with the car seemingly out of control. Rob Wolf will be riding shotgun with Dave for most of the tour, bringing with him his eighty-seven pounds of camera equipment to record the whole ordeal. That alone should testify to what a fearless man Dave Ferro is - not only has he boosted his wife's birthday present Challenger, he's willing to be confined in an E-body for over a week with Rob! Whoa! No longer will the Power Tour be the exclusive domain of magazines which color within the lines, MCG is going to be rolling hard and rolling in style. We'll have a full article on this and the modifications done to Diane's car after the tour, along with the role of honor of those who made the experience possible. A lot of prototype and specialized equipment is going onto and into the Totally Auto Challenger, so it will serve as a long-distance test bed for some pieces which should soon be available over the counter. Stay tuned, this one's going to be wild, it's going to be woolly, and we might only get one phone call, so please answer if you live along the Power Tour route! |
